Per User License

All of our plugins for Unreal Engine, unless stated otherwise, are licensed on a “per user” basis. This means that one license must be purchased for each user working on a project that utilizes the Plugin.

Every user involved in an Unreal Engine project that has a dependency on the Plugin must purchase a valid license for the Plugin in order to work on the project within the Unreal Engine Editor and legally execute the Plugin code. This requirement applies to all roles using the Editor, including programmers, artists, designers, etc., as well as any automated processes.

Unauthorized modification, removal, or circumvention of any protective measures within the Plugins is strictly prohibited, as it constitutes a violation of our rights as specified in the applicable End User License Agreements (EULAs). Such actions are considered a breach of the licensing terms.

EULAs

Below is a brief overview of the key clauses governing the “per user” license and “sharing” within a team. The legal terms to which you must refer are solely those agreed upon at the time of purchase; in the case of Fab, you can find them at the following address: https://www.fab.com/eula.

Per User licensing and Distribution is governed according to the Fab End User License Agreement, section “Content License Grant”, comma “e - Plugins” (archived version on 2024-10-02):

e. Plugins. Code plugins that are being offered on the Epic Marketplace, including Unreal Engine Plugins and Unity Plugins (“Plugins”), are offered to you on a per-seat basis and may only be used by the number of users that you have purchased licenses for.

Section “How you can share content on its own”, comma “a - Sharing of Content” and comma b. Plugin Distribution, clarify that:

b. Plugin Distribution. Distribution of Plugins in source format to your employees, affiliates and contractors is permitted so long as use by those employees, affiliates and contractors does not cause you to exceed the number of paid users you have purchased for the Plugin. Any such Distributions will be subject to the terms of Section 5 of the Agreement. Additionally, for Unreal Engine Plugins any Projects you incorporate Plugins into may only be Distributed as Engine Tools under the Unreal Engine Agreement.

Epic Content License Agreement, section “Marketplace Content Addendum”, comma 1 “Marketplace Plug-ins” (archived version on 2024-09-17) states:

Plugins may be offered to you on a per user basis. Such Plugins may only be used by the number of users that you have purchased licenses for. Distribution of Plugins in source format to your employees, affiliates and contractors is permitted so long as use by those employees, affiliates and contractors does not cause you to exceed the number of paid users you have purchased for the Plugin. Any such Distributions will be subject to the terms of Section 4 of the Agreement. Additionally, any Projects you incorporate Plugins into may only be Distributed as Engine Tools under the Unreal Engine Agreement.

The UE Marketplace KB (last checked on 2024-11-05) states:

Plugin files can be shared, but licenses will need to be purchased for each user that will be using the plugin.
